I started writing up a race report of my team's experiences, Team Still Going (Mark and I used to race with Gerrad of Team Fleet Feet BR). After writing for a while, I realized I was having a hard time putting into words the experiences and mishaps. It was fun, but I dread going back there for a while!!!

Congrats to Dave for organizing an exciting course. Man, that was a great place to race. We enjoyed the serenity of the campground for a few nights before the race. There is little cell coverage making old fashioned communication with family and friends a necessity. It was fun to see teams go through the rigors of a true offroad race. There was a certain amount of blood-letting with some of the "smooth" legged competitors, like Charla. We are looking forward to the rest of the season as the thermometer rises and the wild things start moving around.

This was an excellent course for our 1st race event! It was tough but fun. We could have two races a year at this location due to the acreage offered and characteristics of the terrain! However, I would not want to do it in the middle of the summer; the combination of heat and hills - that would be tough.

Navigating through the woods was a unique requirement; as long as you avoided the briars. Our shorter team mate (charla) may need plastic surgeroy on her legs - we avoided the briars, but evidently she hit a patch or two.

Well...not to give too much away. But, you can be sure you'll get to see parts of both the east and west side of Kincaid Lake. It's way too beautiful to leave out. Gonna be an epic adventure!

Keith, did you go to the eastside and ride the lake trails. The race will mostly be westside and not as steep. East side is about 7 mi. which goes from the 100 ft. bridge to the east side boat launch. Talk about some hills. That is fun and beautiful. If you're staying over and have any energy left after the race that's a must ride trail.

We trained at Lake Kincaid a couple of weeks back - what a course! The lake has one island and multiple fingers; the canoe leg could offer some unique check points. What I found to be exciting were the lake trails; we were able to get up to 21 mph on one down hill trail on the bike. There are issues wth seeps/bogs that could throw you from the bike, not to mention pine cones the size of pineapples! There is also a significant elevation change through out the area; guessing 50 feet - it can put a burn to the legs.

It is going to be fun!!!!

Me, my buddy and my girlfriend are thinking of starting these adventure races. Any advice and things we will need for our first race?

Julie and Susan,
I think you are right. Dave doesn't need no stinkin' soft bed and air-conditioning, he is much like Keith. He just needs a place to lay his head for a few short minutes of power nap, a couple cups of coffee and some toothpicks to hold the eyes open during the race. No other creature comforts necessary. I am really looking forward to this season and the comraderie. I have talked to a biker who frequents the trails at Lake Kincaid and he says they are fantastic. And thanks, Teresa for taking the time to work on accomodations. We all appreciate it. Keep moving forward!

Dave
We are excited about having some new courses. I know that Cliff, Charla and I will be visiting Alexandria to scope out the new course - us old folks need to find the short cuts!
Yes- we need to find a good place to sleep; we'll check it out on one of the training trips.
