Great question. For our races, you can use a hybrid or a mountain bike. No road bikes. Mountain bikes and hybrids have the straight across handlebars and tires from 1"-2.5" wide. Road bikes have the drop down (curved like a ram's horns) and super skinny slick tires. Road bikes aren't allowed because of safety issues. I hope that answers your question. Your teammates are required to be within 50 Feet of each other, unless specified in the directions, at all times. Adventure racing is not like any other racing even you have participated in. Sometimes one member of a team is stronger than another at different events. You will find this challenge rewarding as an individual as much as a team. Yes Kelly, All three members must participate as a team in all portitions of the race.
